There are 19 principal geography departments in Australia (located at 16 universities). In addition, geographical research may be undertaken in other universities without geography departments, in schools of environmental studies, social science or applied science. Every Australian geography department has specific research and teaching strengths, with some departments stronger in particular areas than others.
