Navigating the complex variety of feminisms

chapter
posted on 2021-10-21, 04:13 authored by Linda ColleyLinda Colley, Sue Williamson
To understand feminist methodology, it is essential to start with understanding these developments in thinking and theorising around feminism. We begin by tracing the evolution of feminism from the first-wave focus on the right to vote and own property, through the second-wave focus on equality at home and at work and its many subsets, to the third wave of feminism which focused on individual women and included neoliberal feminism, to the emerging fourth wave of feminism, sparked by #metoo. We then outline how we applied the paradigm to both our method and data analysis, and how it is essential for in-depth analysis of the barriers to gender equality. We conclude with some of our personal hints on how to enter into the literature and method.
