In an increasingly fast-paced and interconnected society, fatigue is a growing safety and health concern for many industries—including mining. Fatigue is a common experience and potentially on the rise in the technology-based information age (Priya and Subramaniyam 2022), With long work hours (Saad 2014), lengthy commutes (Milia 2006; Rogers et al. 2001), less time spent sleeping (Caruso 2014), and poorer sleep quality (Chattu et al. 2019), in combination with loud, hot, dim, and fast-paced job environments (Techera et al. 2016), work-related fatigue has become a common experience as well (NSC 2017b).
