This chapter presents a comprehensive and detailed account of the evolution and development of Australia livestock industries, both ruminant-based and others. The development over 200 years from a continent on which there were no livestock to one of the largest exporter of meat, fiber and other animal products is explained. Several cattle and sheep production case studies are included to capture the unique features of various Australian ruminant production systems.
