posted on 2017-12-06, 00:00 authored by Stephen Mullins, Karl Neuenfeldt
"This chapter traces the shifts that occurred in the public music culture of Thursday Island, Queensland (henceforth T.I.) from about 1900 until the end of World War Two (1945). It is generally chronological, in order to show how music practice evolved and incorporated influences of the day. It draws upon photographs, newspaper accounts, advertisements, and personal recollections to chart the evolution of the musical culture of T.I. over about four decades."
