This chapter looks at five sets of broadly demographic issues for the period 1975-1982. It relies in the main on the results of the 1982 population census which had just become available as the chapter was being written, the tabulations being broadly comparable to previous post-war censuses held in 1975, 1968, 1962, 1954 and 1946. The census forms an unrivalled source of detailed information and the chapter has, in part, the aim of illustrating its uses.
