Enhanced decision making In midwifery: Care for pregnant and parenting adolescents

This chapter explores the context of caring for pregnant and parenting adolescents and its relevance to decision-making in midwifery care. The focus is to enhance understanding around the global context of adolescent pregnancy and parenting, examine the challenges commonly faced by midwives when providing care to this often vulnerable group and explore ways in which this knowledge can enhance care decisions. Activities will encourage reflexivity and suggestions will be made regarding ways to facilitate shared decision-making, a central tenet of woman-centred care.
