Doing the Torres Strait Hula' : the adaptation and perseverance of 'Hula' in an Australian performance culture

In the Torres Strait region of Australia women have been performing 'hula' over several generations. It is argued they perform a version of the 'Hollywood hula' learnt from movies and popular culture representations. The data is based on interviews with dancers and also archival photographs.
