Developing a social media unit for project management students

As a standard practice, the project management curriculum includes describing and applying project management tools and techniques in diverse scenarios. However, students are not taught how to benefit from different social media features, especially in a project management context. Furthermore, project management’s reliance on communication and collaboration, cross-boundary social media features, frequent technology updates, and the learning profile of millennials substantiate a revamped project management curriculum that includes a social media unit in educational settings. However, there appear to be no units that specifically cater to teaching social media use to project management students. Since no prior attempt has been made to address this gap in higher education’s current project management curriculum, this chapter aims to propose a unit structure for teaching social media use to project management students.
