This chapter examines the implications of market expansion and multinational involvement in the production and retailing of fair trade certified products. It reviews debates concerning the potential social and ethical consequences of the apparent mainstreaming of fair trade food consumption before moving to an examination of what is known about those people who have been mobilised as fair trade consumers.
