Nurses and midwives in Australasia are cognizant that they are responsible for providing the best possible standard of patient care. They are increasingly called upon to justifY their clinical decisions and outcomes to peers, colleagues, government organizations and health care clients. To meet these expectations, research activity has increased and evidence-based practice is promoted as the best way to ensure quality of nursing care.
