All the bad news about today's Japan that fascinates western journalists : the challenges faced by Japan now and in the future
"It is of course rare for any Western newspaper to give lengthy reports on social, economic and political phenomena in Japan that are successful, stable and working well. Like zealous deconstructionists the journalists zero in on flaws and rifts in the Japanese system and magnify these flaws until they become a dramatic news story. For example, there are no media reports on the stability of the Japanese socio-political system, no media reports on peaceful and crime-free togetherness in Japanese society; no media reports on the courtesy, self-discipline and patience that lie at the basis of universal Japanese cooperation within the greater framework of their society. You might find such analyses in academic books on the sociology of Japan, but not in newspapers."
