Statistical methods : a geometric primer

book
posted on 2017-12-06, 00:00 authored by DJ Saville, GR Wood
"The purpose of this primer is to impart a real understanding of the most commonly used statistical methods in the simplest possible manner. To this end, four examples involving normally distributed data are analyzed using a novel geometric approach. These examples explain the mathematics underlying paired and independent sample t tests, analysis of variance and regression. In essence, the approach reduces statistical analysis froma a high-dimensional problem involving matrices to a two-dimensional problem involving only vectors. The approach makes it possible to learn statistics by drawing pictures on a piece of paper."--p. vii.
