Screening science: Contexts, text and science in fifties science fiction film

book
posted on 2017-12-06, 00:00 authored by Errol Estate Of Vieth
Screening Science inspects science fiction film, the way in which films construct that science, the end results of that construction, and the totality of the discourse of science in relation to other discourses of power and influence. The book is structured in two parts. Part 1 examines the genre of science fiction and the contextual elements of history and culture, and the film industry. Part 2 analyses the nature of science and its representation in Western culture, narrowing to an attempt to detail the cultural representation of science in science fiction films, especially in the fifties when the film medium assumed significance for the genre.
