Proceedings of the 1994 Postgraduate Student Association Symposium held at Central Queensland University 1994.
The 1994 Symposium was held from the 11 to the 14 August, during which CQU students presented papers on a
range of topics. The Symposium received generous support from the Vice-Chancellor and staff, as well as from the
Student Union. This publication demonstrates the diversity of research at CQU.
A highlight of this year's Symposium was the presentation of the inaugural Supervisor of the Year award to Dr
Martin Sillence, Honorary Senior Fellow with the Faculty of Applied Science and Research Scientist with CSIRO's
Division of Tropical Animal Production in Rockhampton. Students were invited to nominate supervisors for this
award, accompanied by a brief statement outlining their virtues.
As a young and relatively small university, CQU offers postgraduate opportunities to become involved in the
decision making process of the university which might be available only to a privileged few on older, more
established campuses. A further advantage which is at least partly attributable to our size and youth is the
opportunity for cross fertilisation of ideas between different faculties and fields of research. These proceedings
might be read as one example of the fruits to be gleaned from this fertilisation. We hope you enjoy the
Proceedings from the 1994 CQU Postgraduate Symposium.
