Foreward: Whilst it is easy to discount many past events as regionally specific and no longer relevant because of changing technologies and infrastructure, the most important element during and after a natural disaster is people's responses. Barbara Webster has done and excellent job of weaving the threads of information about the record 1918 Fitzroy River flood and local community reaction to this event into a story that is both entertaining and pertinent to modern issues.
