Disreputable profession: Journalists and journalism in colonial Australia

It is ironic that journalism, of all fields, should be shrouded in myth and mystery. Yet so much of Australia's journalism history, especially in the colonial era, remains untold and poorly synthesised. Gaps in our knowledge have resulted in a considerable degree of misunderstanding of the colonial press.
